The behavior of a Lena man sparked suspicions with the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's deputies who pulled him over for traffic violations on Wednesday morning, according to a release.

When deputies pulled 24-year-old Lowell G. Pomerantz over around 7:50 a.m. near the intersections of Amulet and North streets in Natchitoches, they saw him acting suspiciously before they approached him. Then, they thought he might be under the influence of drugs, since he stated that he'd not had any alcohol, according to the release.

The deputies, who had pulled Pomerantz over because the 1995 Chevrolet pickup he drove had no motor vehicle inspection sticker and because of other traffic offenses, got permission to search the truck. They found suspected synthetic marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to the release.

Pomerantz, 0f the 17500 block of La. Highway 1, was arrested. On the way to the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center, he allegedly became combative and "refused to cooperate in all aspects of the arrest," reads the release.

He was booked into jail, charged with possession of synthetic marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Pomerantz, who has 11 prior bookings in both the Natchitoches and Rapides detention centers, remains in jail.
