Stanley was found in her yard by responding Vernon Parish Sheriff’s deputies. After she told them that Link had shot her, deputies and detectives began searching for the older woman. She was found inside Stanley’s home, suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Divers later retrieved a gun believed to have been used to shoot Stanley from the lake, according to the sheriff’s office.

A motive for the shooting still is unknown.
