Nason "Tony" Authement has been superintendent for the Rapides Parish School District since 2013.

The Rapides Parish School Board is in the process of evaluating Superintendent Nason "Tony" Authement. Each board member is filling out an "observation/evaluation form" to be collected and discussed in executive session Tuesday before committee meetings.

Board members received the six-page observation form or "rubric" at March committee meetings. It was approved April 5 and members were tasked with completing it by the special meeting set for Tuesday.

The form asks board members to rate Authement on a four-point scale ranging from 1 as unsatisfactory to 4 as highly effective in six areas — leadership, personnel, finances, school/staff and community relations, professional growth and ethics, and school and student performance.

Both meetings will be in executive session, Board President Stephen Chapman said. District D representative Willard "Bubba" McCall said the meeting is "preliminary" and will be followed by another. Chapman added that there will be "some discussion" Tuesday and likely more at the next meeting that has not been set.

"(Evaluation results) will only be announced if he wants it announced," Chapman said, referring to Authement.

Authement has had one other evaluation, in January 2015, since he took the helm of the Rapides Parish School District in 2013.

The board voted voted 8-1 on Nov. 3 to offer Authement the new contract at the same "minimum base salary" of $160,000 as the one he signed April 27, 2013. The new contract takes effect June 1 upon expiration of his current three-year contract.
