An Alexandria man is facing charges, including attempted murder, after allegedly busting into a home and then firing shots at a person over the weekend, say police.

The Alexandria Police Department was called early Saturday, around 1 a.m., to a home in the 2500 block of Culpepper Road for a burglary report, reads a release. Responding officers immediately noticed the home's front door was damaged so badly that it couldn't be secured.

The door reportedly had been kicked in, it reads.

The resident told officers that the suspect, 24-year-old Davion Ledearian Smith of the 5200 block of Lacassine Drive, was known to him. Smith had been coming to his apartment repeatedly, "trying to get in, despite repeatedly being told not to come there," reads the release.

Smith allegedly had been to the home earlier Friday night, climbed a ladder, banged on a window and demanded to be let inside. About an hour later, he banged on the door, kicked it in and came inside.

"The suspect then spit on the resident before taking a phone and breaking it, then fled the scene," it reads. "The resident was eventually able to find a neighbor to phone the police."

The victim left to stay with a family member. But a family member decided to drive back about an hour after the initial call to police so he could retrieve some items left unsecured by the broken door. That person called police to report that Smith had fired multiple shots at him as he was driving on Sterkx Road near Culpepper.

One shot hit the driver's side mirror, it reads. Smith had been walking on the street with another man, later identified as his 23-year-old brother Dacruis Lee Smith of the 1400 block of Powell Lane in Alexandria.

The victim said both were wearing camouflage.

The brothers fled after the shooting, but officers quickly responded to the area and spotted them just blocks away. The two began running when they saw police, but Dacruis Smith was immediately apprehended.

Officers continued their search, finding a camouflage jacket in a yard on Edwards Street. As officers looked around the house, they spotted a leg sticking out from underneath it, and ordered the man out.

Davion Smith was taken into custody. Both brothers were booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center.

Davion Smith was charged with home invasion and attempted second-degree murder. Dacruis Smith was charged with warrants for felony theft, felony criminal damage to property, disturbing the peace and felony contributing to the delinquency of a minor from the Pineville Police Department.

The brothers remain in jail on Monday morning. Bond for Davion Smith was set at $275,000. A $500 bond for Dacruis Smith was set on only one charge, disturbing the peace. No bond was set on the other charges.
